Training, Referral, and Advanced Care
CHU Selmane is conceived as a national anchor for advanced medical care and clinical training. It combines emergency, inpatient, and specialty services with teaching and research capacity to serve Nouakchott and support a broader network of regional hospitals.
Funding & Partners
Supported by the Saudi Fund for Development with a USD 70 million investment. The foundation stone was laid on Sep 16, 2025 in Nouakchott. The program emphasizes sustainable capacity building, staff training, and a long-term teaching mission.
Capacity & Services
A 300+ bed campus with inpatient wards, emergency care, dialysis, surgery, and comprehensive diagnostics including MRI, CT scanners, ultrasound, mammography, and X-ray imaging.
National Referral Role
Designed as a referral hub supporting 15 hospitals nationwide, easing pressure on existing facilities and raising the standard of specialized care.
Mix of single, double, and VIP inpatient rooms.
Critical care, triage, and 24/7 emergency services.
Training programs and conference facilities for clinical education.
On-site accommodation to retain and support specialist staff.
Campus Plan
Integrated, Walkable, and Expandable
The master plan organizes outpatient consults, diagnostics, the main inpatient block, and administrative services around shaded plazas and landscaped corridors. A designated future expansion zone protects the long-term growth of the campus.

Comprehensive Specialty Services
The hospital covers medical and surgical specialties with a focus on emergency, maternity, pediatrics, intensive care, nephrology, and advanced surgical suites. Diagnostics and laboratory services are integrated to support faster decisions.

12 operating rooms, catheterization, and full medical wards with inpatient and outpatient capacity.
Diagnostics
MRI, two CT scanners, ultrasound, mammography, X-ray, and modern laboratories.
Patient Support
Central pharmacy, dialysis unit, mosque, catering services, and a morgue.
